General Meeting

UMKC College Democrats

Monday, October 6th, 2003 - 5:oopm

 

I. The meeting was called to order by Ally Letsky at 5:00pm on Monday, October 6th in the UCenter room 147.

II. Welcomes were given to all in attendance and Introductions followed. In attendance was Bob Hughs from the Gephardt Ride Along to speak about the matter.

III. Officer Reports

        a. President

                i. Handed out packets, calendars, info sheets

                ii. Discussed the roo fair that will be on October 17th (Friday) from 11-2:00 - anyone who would like to come and represent UMKC's College Dems are more than welcome.

                iii. Discussed the Iron Chef Cooking Competition that the President (Ally Letsky) and Treasurer (Kate Harris) will be taking part in on behalf of CD. The Competition will be Monday, October 20th from 12-1pm. Everyone is invited to cheer our team on.

                iv. Logo and T-Shirt ideas were discussed and then voted on.

        b. Vice President (Simon Khagi)

                i. Vice President was unable to attend the meeting due to prior engagements.

        c. Secretary (Lucas Henry)

                i. CD's newsletter was discussed. Officers were asked to write a little something about their office by officer's meeting. General members are invited to submit writings/cartoons/etc for the newsletter.

                ii. The Membership Book was passed around: New members were encouraged to fill out a New Members Form and all members were encouraged to sign their name so we can keep track of who is in attendance.

        d. Treasurer (Kate Harris)

                i. Announced that we are now collecting dues. Dues will be $20, checks are made payable to UMKC College Democrats. Benefits of being a Dues Paying Member include: voting rights, opportunity to run for an office, long sleeve CD t-shirt, a monthly newsletter, events hosted by CD are free, and much more.

        e. Campaign Director (Marcus Leach)

                i. Bob Hughs from the Gephardt Ride Along spoke about what will be happening in Iowa if students wanted to join the group. Bob Hughs can be contacted by emailing umkccollegedems@umkc.edu.

                ii. Gov. Howard Dean will be in Kansas City on Wednesday, October 15th, 2003 at 7:00pm at the Uptown Theater. Tickets are $50 a person, $20 for students. For more information, please email umkccollegedems@umkc.edu.

                iii. Announced that the Missouri Democratic Party was looking for a few students interested in Canvassing Clay and Platte Counties. Please email umkccollegedems@umkc.edu for more information.

                iv. A Future of Kansas City meeting will be on October 20th at 7:00 pm in the UCenter room #106. CD members are welcome to go and watch the meeting, and maybe have the opportunity to talk with some city officials.

        f. Communications Directors (Daniel Lee and Ashly Evans)

                i. Invited members to submit ideas for posters.

        g. Events/Social Directors (Lindsey Bridges and Darin Martinez)

                i. It was voted on that the viewing of The War Room will be moved to after meeting on Monday, November 3rd because the Cheifs are playing Monday Night Football on October 20th.

                ii. It was voted on and decided that CD would like to play CR in a sporting match. The games decided on were kickball or softball. Date, game, time is yet to be announced.

IV. Open Discussion was opened to the floor.

        a. Members noted that the Rolling Thunder Down Home Democracy Tour was on October 18th. More information can be found on the "stuff" page.

V. A motion was made and seconded to end meeting at 6:00pm.
