Meeting Minutes by Elizabeth Lewis – Secretary
7:00- Vice president Daniel called meeting to order.
Daniel describes democratic days, possibly over spring break. If want

7:05- Secretary Calls for articles for Kick.
Please submit suggestions, articles, jokes, or opinions to Sharon
Please make sure if you have not been receiving emails, and if you know anyone
who isn’t and would like to be please contact Elizabeth
7:10- Treasurer: Andrea will soon be collecting money for Dem. Membership,
please contact her to become an official member of the College Democrats
Cost will be $20, or $25 for shirt
We have a lot of outside interest in our shirts; it may be a good way to increase
our funds, Ashley states she has at least 30 people ordered
7:15- President: Simon thanks everyone who helped at the Missouri Democrats training
Convention
Introduces speakers from Mo. Democrats
Suggest a vote to go without parliamentary rules for this meeting due to time issues.
Daniel suggests meeting time change. Vote for whether meeting should be held at
6:30 or 7 on Wednesday. Vote decided 6:30, but this was again changed
because president could not attend at that time. Therefore, MEETINGS
WILL BE HELD @ 7 pm on Wednesday
As a group, Khagi suggests we host Democratic Olympics in early Oct. One day –
sport between Republicans, Democrats, and possibly Greens; next day- political
debate or forum
Requested suggestions for sport ideas
Ideas suggested: Dodge-ball, Kickball, Softball, Touch football, capture the flag, election tag, and a trivia like game
!! Also, wants to know if interest is there to sponsor a comedian A. Whitney
Brown to come to UMKC. Is touring in support of the Democratic Party. Need to know pretty soon about this one, if any one is interested, would need an organizing committee and volunteers to work at event. Comedic style similar to Louis Black. Want to co-sponsor campus screening of “Outfoxed” with campus greens.
Need to look into copyrights
Women’s center and LGBT event on September 24: “Voter appreciation night” if

November 2nd: Rock the vote concert, needs volunteers and prizes, is the group

7:27: Ally and Julianne working on political advisory committee to get equal school
funding for Republicans, Dems, and Greens
7:30: Communications Director: Julianne: Needs help with poster ideas and putting them

7:31: We need a new events coordinator, people nominated were Adrienne May, Ashley
Evans, Shannon Wallace, and Callie Nuguen Vote will be at next meeting!!
7:33: Philanthropy: The “Light the Night” (for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) walk
through Corporate Woods will be Friday at 5:15, meet at 4:45 in front of U-Center. Volunteers will be directing Walkers.
Thanks to volunteers, it is a really wonderful cause.

Phone Banking
This is a really big deal this election, especially in a swing state like Mo. , because it is our best way to reach undecided voters Remember last election was won last year by 1 vote in Clay Co.
Interested in a UMKC Night, shifts Sunday-Thursday 5-7, and 7-9??
Canvassing
Every weekend until election, meet at 9- until mid-afternoon. Meet at
office @ 84th and Wornall (next to Greek restaurant on East side of
rd.) ; Get a map to a part of the city, and a script.
Paid Canvassing
Training this week.
Need people to work 5 hr a day (with a group meeting a half hour before
and a half hour after), 6 days a week (minimum of 15 hrs)
For next 3 Weeks
Use a Palm Pilot script and map of area
Internships
Still available, cr. for winter semester
Requirements for UMKC= 1 paper, sit in on strategy meetings
Kerry requirements= 15-20 hours a week minimum (up to any amt. you
want), take on responsibility and management skills
Benefits: wonderful experience, letter of recommendation, application/
resume enhancer
