Diversity Policy

UMKC Debate commits to embracing diversity and developing sensitivity and understanding about differences among people on an ongoing basis. We uphold the UMKC Diversity in Action definition of diversity as taking responsibility for owning our own personal biases. We extend that to specifically welcome all persons of varying race/ethnicity, disability, religion, creed, national origin, socioeconomic status, gender, and sexual orientation.

UMKC Debate is dedicated to the principle of free expression and exploration of ideas in an atmosphere of civility and mutual respect. Related to this principle is the belief that all members of UMKC will have access to UMKC debate activities without regard to race, creed, age, gender, sex, national origin, sexual or affectional preference, or non-disqualifying handicap.

UMKC Debate actively recruits and retains a diverse squad through high school and college novice recruitment. UMKC promotes a diversity of argumentation styles, formats and substance.
