Student Organizations » FAQs » Funding Workshops

When are the upcoming mandatory funding workshops for student organizations?
The funding workshops for the fall 2009 have already taken place. Workshops will be planned for January 2010 for all newly recognized student organizations as well as those who wish to be reinstated as an active student organization. All student organizations must attend a funding workshop each fall or they will lose their active status for the semester. Loss of active status also means you cannot host events on campus, receive a campus mailbox, and many other resources provided to student organizations.
Who are the twelve academic student councils?
- Academy of Students of Pharmacy (ASP)
- Arts & Sciences Student Council (A&S)
- Biological Sciences Student Government (BSSG)
- Bloch School Student Association (BSSA)
- Conservatory Student Association (CSA)
- Dental Student Association (DSA)
- Interdisciplinary Doctoral Student Council (IDSC)
- Medical Student Advisory Council (MSAC)
- School of Computing and Engineering Student Council (SCE)
- School of Education Student Government (SOESG)
- Student Bar Association (SBA)
- Student Nurses Association (SNA)
If I am representing a student council and a student organization, do I have to attend both the workshops?
Yes, some parts of the student council funding workshop are different from the student organization funding workshop meant for all student organizations. We recommend sending different representatives to funding workshops in order to benefit other officers as well.
Why is it important that I attend the Funding Workshop?
The funding workshop will allow student leaders to learn about the funding process, policies, services and facilities available to student organizations at UMKC. You will also be updated on new and revised policies affecting student organizations. You will not be considered an active student organization if you do not attend the workshop each fall.
Where can I sign up for the funding workshops?
To sign up for a funding workshop, please contact the Student Life Office at 816-235-1407.
When is the next funding workshop if I cannot attend any of the dates above?
The next funding workshop will be held in January 2010 – please check back closer to the date for details. Student organizations unable to send a representative to the fall workshops will not be eligible to receive funding from both SGA and academic student council for the entire fall semester. What if you are a new group and received recognition after the workshop dates in that particular semester?
Your leadership as well as campus advisor would be required to schedule an appointment with Shelby Coxon, Assistant Director of Student Life to go through a one-on-one training after you have received official recognition. This training has to be completed before your organization can request funding from SGA or an academic student council.
